Musical Slots Can Be Very Profitable

March 2005
Joe Kubayov

Most gamblers who play the slots are aware that large payouts are infrequent and only come along every so often. Even though many slot machines entice gamblers to sit down and play for hours in the hope of winning a jackpot, most people know that the chances of becoming an instant millionaire are quite slim. The questions remains, why do slot players continue to sit at the same machine after it has paid out a large sum of money?

Slot machines are governed by a computer chip which generate a random set of sequential patterns. It is these patterns that tell the machine when to pay out and not to pay out. Therefore, a slot player must keep in mind that they have no control over their chances of winning unlike table games where a player has to make decisions that ultimately determine their fate. If you are seated at a slot machine that has just paid out a sum of money that is substantial, get up and move to a different machine. The chances of that particular machine paying out again anytime soon are very slim. However, that does not mean that a slot machine directly beside a player will not pay out soon after they choose to sit down. I once watched a friend of mine win five hundred dollars because he chose to move from machine to machine after each one paid him out a decent sum of cash. He had the foresight to know that the chances of another large payout at each machine was unlikely. If all slot players used this strategy, I am certain that more people would leave the casino a winner even if it meant a short game of "musical slots."
